Indian-spec Tesla Model Y Range Increased To 661 Kilometers

Back in July 2025, Tesla launched the Model Y in India in two variants: Standard RWD and Long Range RWD, with a claimed range of up to 622 km as per the WLTP cycles. Now, the American EV giant has increased the claimed WLTP range figure of the top-spec Long Range RWD variant to 661 km. That’s an increase of 39 kilometres on a single charge.

While Tesla hasn’t made any official announcement regarding this, reports suggest that this has been achieved by a new & bigger 84.2kWh battery pack, replacing the earlier 78.1 kWh unit. However, the drivetrain specifications remain unchanged. It retains the same rear-wheel-drive motor as earlier, which enables the EV to hit the 100 kmph mark from standstill in just 5.6 seconds. Another positive aspect is that Tesla hasn’t increased the prices of the EV. The Standard RWD variant will still cost you Rs 59.89 lakh, while the Long Range RWD trim is priced at Rs 67.89 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom).

Aside from the increased range and bigger battery pack, everything else remains the same. It continues to come kitted with amenities like 19-inch all-black alloy wheels, powered bonnet for hands-free access to the frunk, a 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment, connected car tech, multi-zone climate control, powered front seats with heating & ventilation functions, an 8-inch rear entertainment screen, panoramic glass roof, powered rear seats with recline function, multi-colour ambient lighting, air purifier, a 360-degree camera, built-in dashcam, full ADAS suite with an optional full Self-Driving System for an additional cost of Rs 6 lakh.

In other news, Tesla India has recently commenced deliveries of the Tesla Model Y. As of the end of August, it has received over 600 bookings in India. The relatively low demand for Tesla in India is attributed to its hefty prices, which include a 110% import tax. Additionally, Tesla’s current approach in India focuses more on a “brand establishment” exercise than a volume-driven strategy. Head here for more details.
