Citroen Basalt X Launched – More Features At A Better Price

After launching the C3 X last month, Citroen has now introduced the Basalt X at a starting price of Rs 12.90 lakh (ex-showroom). It is essentially an upgrade to the top-spec Max variant within the existing Basalt lineup. It effectively adds an “X” suffix to the Max variant, along with a host of feature additions, making the coupe SUV a more mature offering than before.

Bookings for the Basalt X are already underway for a token amount of Rs 11,000.

Citroen Basalt X – What’s New?

The new Citroen Basalt X brings plenty of Xtras (read as extras) to the table. To start with, the upgraded SUV coupe now comes with LED fog lamps and distinctive “X” badging on the tailgate.

While changes on the exterior are limited, updates are more significant inside the cabin. It now features a new black-and-brown dual-tone theme, replacing the previous black-and-ivory finish, giving it a bolder character.

The dashboard retains its familiar layered design with a central floating display. However, it now sports slanted pattern imprints on the upper layer of the dash, along with bronze-coloured accents in the centre and a leatherette finish for a more premium touch. It also gets a new floating 7-inch digital cluster, along with tan-and-black upholstery, enhancing its modern appeal.

On the features front, the Basalt now welcomes new amenities like ventilated front seats, auto-dimming IRVM, keyless entry with push button start/stop, cruise control with speed limiter, two Type-C charging ports for rear passengers (replacing Type-A units), and an optional 360-degree surround view system.

The SUV also receives a new AI-based in-car conversational assistant called “CARA”, which the brand describes as a “smart co-passenger”. It can engage in human-like conversations, adapts to user preferences, and provides news updates, plays music, provides vehicle health reports, tracks flights in real-time and can optimise traffic and routes in accordance with flight schedules. It supports multiple languages.

As of now, the CARA is limited to the Basalt’s top-spec Maxx Automatic variant.
