Maruti WagonR Retains Its Position As India’s Best Selling Car

As the auto industry closes the books on the last financial year (FY2024 -25), the annual sales tally is out, and once again, Maruti Suzuki WagonR has emerged as India’s best-selling car, marking its fourth consecutive at the top with 1,98,451 units sold. The Tata Punch recorded the second-highest sales last financial year, demonstrating its strong demand among buyers.

  • Maruti Suzuki continued to dominate the charts with seven models in the top 0 list, while Tata, Mahindra and Hyundai showed strong performances with their top contenders.
  • The WagonR’s strong demand reflects Maruti’s strong grip on budget-conscious family buyers. However, the Tata Punch has given strong competition to the WagonR, falling short by just 1879 units.

  • With 1.94 lakh units sold, the Creta continues to prove its dominance in the segment. It also shows a shift in the customer mindset towards aspirational, feature-loaded vehicles.
  • The Ertiga, India’s top-selling MPV, continues to draw families and fleet buyers, whereas the Fronx, a relatively new entrant, made a huge impact, hinting at buyers’ openness towards crossovers.
  • With its solid design and rugged nature, the Scorpio remains a strong performer, especially in tier 2 and rural areas.
  • It is worth noting that most of these top-selling models are priced under Rs 15 lakh, reaffirming that affordability, fuel efficiency, and reliability still drive volumes in the country.
