Citroen Basalt Scores 4 Stars in Bharat NCAP Crash Test

Citroen Basalt Scores 4 Stars in Bharat NCAP Crash Test

The Citroen Basalt has achieved a four-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests, marking a significant milestone as the first non-Tata car to undergo testing by the safety agency. This result gives Basalt an edge in the market, as safety ratings are becoming increasingly important for buyers.

Crash Test Performance

Adult Occupant Protection (AOP)

The Basalt scored 26.19 out of 32 for adult safety. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, it provided good protection to the driver’s and co-driver’s head and neck, but chest protection was rated marginal for the driver. Both occupants received adequate to good protection for their lower limbs, with the pelvis area receiving marginal protection. The footwell area for the driver was rated adequate, ensuring decent overall protection in case of an impact.

In the side impact test, the Basalt performed even better, offering good protection to the head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis of the occupants. This is crucial for urban driving, where side impacts can be more common due to heavy traffic.

Child Occupant Protection (COP):

For child safety, the Basalt scored 35.9 out of 49, with a dynamic score of 19.9/24, which indicates strong performance in crash simulations for children. While Bharat NCAP hasn’t released detailed reports on specific child dummy tests, the Basalt performed well overall in terms of child restraint system (CRS) installation, scoring a full 12/12 in that category.

Priced from Rs 7.99 lakh, the Basalt competes with subcompact SUVs like the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, and Mahindra XUV300.
