Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG Bike: Mileage and Running Costs Detailed

Bajaj Auto has just launched the Freedom 125 with prices ranging between Rs 95,000 and Rs 1.10 lakh (ex-showroom). Touted as a game-changer for long-distance commuters and daily riders, the Freedom 125 promises up to 50% lower operating costs when compared to conventional petrol-powered bikes. Bajaj claims that it has been designed to address the pressing concerns of rising fuel prices and environmental sustainability, offering an attractive alternative to traditional petrol bikes. In this article, we delve into the mileage and running costs of the Bajaj Freedom 125.

  • The Bajaj Freedom 125 comes with a 125cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that belts out 9.5PS of max power and 9.7Nm of peak torque.
  • It has a 2 kilogram CNG tank and a petrol tank of 2 litres.
  • The Freedom 125 boasts an impressive claimed mileage of 102 km/kg on CNG and 65 km/l on petrol. This results in a total claimed range of roughly 330 kilometres. However, the CNG-only range is about 204 kilometres.
  • With the current CNG price in Maharashtra at ₹79.46 per kg and the Bajaj Freedom 125’s claimed mileage of 102 km per kg, the effective running cost per kilometre on CNG comes to approximately ₹0.78. For an average monthly running of 1,000 km, the fuel cost would be just ₹780.
  • On the other hand, the per-kilometer running cost for the Bajaj Freedom 125 on petrol is approximately ₹1.62. That’s almost double the CNG-only rate.

This cost-effective solution not only offers substantial savings on fuel but also makes a significant positive impact on the environment. The bike also claims to deliver up to 26% less COâ‚‚ emissions, 85% lower NMHC (Non-Methane Hydrocarbons), and 43% less NOx (Nitrogen Oxides) emissions than traditional petrol bikes, marking a major stride in reducing air pollution. However, let’s not forget the notorious delays and extended lines at the CNG stations.

Conclusion

In the end, it comes down to whether you prefer saving money on running costs and don’t mind waiting longer at CNG stations, or if you’d rather pay more for petrol to save time refuelling your bike. It’s all about finding the balance that works best for your needs and preferences.
