Maruti Suzuki Reintroduced Mild-Hybrid For Brezza; Mileage Increased

Maruti Suzuki has silently reintroduced mild-hybrid technology in the higher-spec ZXI and ZXI+ variants of the Brezza SUV. Previously, it had been removed from the entire manual variant lineup, adversely affecting fuel efficiency. However, the recent reintroduction has resulted in improved fuel efficiency figures from 17.38 kmpl to 19.89 kmpl.

Maruti Brezza Mild-Hybrid Technology

The Maruti Brezza’s mild-hybrid system is known as SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki), which includes a small-capacity battery setup and an integrated starter generator (ISG) that assists the engine during acceleration and restarts. It also features regenerative braking technology, which recovers energy during braking & deceleration and stores it in the lithium-ion battery and powers various electrical components, reducing the load on the engine and improving fuel efficiency. The idle start/stop technology further helps in improving fuel efficiency.

Powering the Maruti Suzuki Brezza is still a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, Dual-jet, DualVVT, naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 103PS of max power and 137Nm of peak torque. It can paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The engine can also be had with a factory-fitted CNG kit that offers a slightly lower output of 88PS/121.5Nm, and comes only with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Currently, Maruti Suzuki retails the Brezza between Rs 8.29 lakh to Rs 14.14 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it against the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger.
