New Z-Series Petrol Engine To Be Offered With 2024 Fourth-Gen Suzuki Swift

Suzuki recently unveiled the fourth-generation Swift hatchback at the 2023 Tokyo Motor Show. Reports suggest that the 2024 Swift will be equipped with Suzuki’s all-new Z-Series 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine (codenamed Z12) to replace the ongoing K-Series 4-cylinder unit.

  • Details about its technical specifications are scarce at the moment, but it will likely offer more fuel efficiency with power output similar to the ongoing model, with potentially higher torque.
  • Reports also suggest that the new Z12 engine loses the K12’s free-revving nature in favour of the more substantial low-end pulling power, which will better suit its city-driving characteristics.
  • Also, being a 3-cylinder unit, it will be lighter and less pollutant than the ongoing K12 unit.
  • We anticipate models like Baleno, Fronx, Ignis and Dzire, which have the K12 petrol engine, will recieve this new Z-series engine.
  • Expect Suzuki’s expansion of the Z-Series to include a variety of engine capacities.

No Hybrid For India

It is also worth noting that the fourth-gen Swift concept showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show also features a hybrid system. But its Indian-spec version is expected to be a non-hybrid offering.
