Maruti Grand Vitara To Get Autonomous Tech By Next Year

In a bid to remain competitive in the market, Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to introduce an ADAS-equipped Grand Vitara in the first quarter of the upcoming financial year. The Grand Vitara-rivaling MG Astor, Honda Elevate and Kia Seltos currently have an ADAS suite in the mid-size SUV segment.

Reports suggest that Maruti Suzuki had intended to launch the ADAS-equipped Grand Vitara in the third quarter of this year, but the plan was delayed due to the shortage of semiconductors and other components.

What is ADAS?

For those unaware, the ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistant System. It is essentially a pack of various active safety features that uses various sensors, radar and cameras to provide feedback to the driver and, in some cases, take limited control of the vehicle to prevent accidents, providing the safety of the driver, passengers and surrounding vehicles and pedestrians.

What To Expect?

  • While it is not official, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is expected to get Level-2 ADAS technology, with driver assist features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, cross-traffic alert, and forward collision warning, among others.
  • Expect Maruti Suzuki to introduce the ADAS suite with upper variants of the Grand Vitara, with an estimated price hike of approximately Rs 55,000 to Rs 70,000 over the current model.
  • Anticipate Grand Vitaraโ€™s sibling rival, the Toyota Hyryder, to also benefit from ADAS tech in the near future.
