Toyota Rumion vs. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga – Which Car Should You Buy?

In order to expand its MPV lineup, Toyota has recently launched the Ertiga-based Rumion in India. While both MPVs are fundamentally the same, there are some minor differences between the two. Also, the Toyota model is offered in fewer variants than the Ertiga and comes at a slightly higher cost. So which one is the right choice for you? Let’s find the answer.

Let’s start with the price comparison: –

  • Unlike Ertiga, the Rumion doesn’t get the bare-bone entry-level variant.
  • Toyota offers the CNG kit with only one variant, while the Ertiga has two CNG trims in its lineup, catering to a broader section of buyers.
  • The price difference between the two MPVs’ corresponding variants is up to Rs 61,000.
  • The Toyota Rumion’s base price is around Rs 1.65 lakh more expensive than the Maruti Ertiga’s.

Warranty

Toyota offers the Rumion with 3 years / 1 lakh kilometres of standard warranty against the Ertiga’s 2-year / 40,000 km coverage. Maruti buyers can also get a total of 5-years/1 lakh km warranty with the extended warranty package, while the Toyota will let you extend it to the same 5 years but with 2.20 lakh kilometres coverage. Additionally, Toyota also offers a free 3-year Roadside Assistance (RSA) facility with the Rumion.

Which Car Should You Buy?

Both MPVs are essentially the same, sharing identical features, engine and styling, differing only in the front design. However, the more extended warranty on the Rumion and Toyota’s reputed service quality make a strong case for it. But, the Ertiga benefits from Maruti’s nationwide service network, making the service and repair process easier and more accessible.

Overall, the Maruti Ertiga edges the Toyota Rumion in terms of price and broader variant lineup, catering to a wider audience, but the Rumion distinguishes itself with a slightly refreshed design and a better after-sales package.

Now, everything depends on what the buyer prioritizes. If budget is a concern or the buyer demands a more loaded CNG version, Ertiga would be a more pragmatic choice. However, if peace of mind, better resale value, and contemporary design take priority, then Rumion is a solid choice.
