This Tiny MG EV Can Run 230 KM In A Single Charge

MG Motor India has debuted in the entry-level electric vehicle market with the Comet EV โ€“ a compact 2-door, 4-seater car that is essentially a rebadged version of the Wuling Air EV sold overseas. It is geared towards city-dwellers seeking an eco-friendly ride.

MG Comet EV โ€“ Exterior Design and Dimensions

  • Underpinned on the brandโ€™s Global Small Electric Vehicle platform, the Comet EV measures 2,974mm in length, 1,505mm in width, and 1,640mm in height, with a wheelbase measuring 2,010mm, making it even smaller than the now-discontinued Tata Nano.
  • The curb weight of this compact electric vehicle stands at 815kg.
  • Aesthetically, the Comet EV boasts a bold, boxy design with a distinctive front end and a striking red light bar spanning its width at the rear. Its fog light is low on the bumper, and the rear-side window is notably lower than the door window, with the door handle situated at their intersection. With a long side door, getting in and out of the EV is effortless.
  • MG will offer the Comet EV in five body shades: Aurora Silver, Starry Black, Candy White, Apple Green with black roof, and Candy White with black roof.

Interior and Features

  • The cabinโ€™s standout feature is itโ€™s dual floating 10.25-inch displays housing the touchscreen infotainment system and digital driverโ€™s unit with customizable widgets.
  • Other key features of the Comet EV include: โ€“
    • Connected car technology
    • Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

    • Telescopic steering adjustment
    • Eco and Sports driving modes
    • Powered ORVMs
    • Powered front windows
    • Rear-view cameras
    • 3-point seat belts

Battery, Range, and Charging Time

  • As of now, there have been no official updates regarding the specifications of the Comet EV. However, going by the latest leaks, the EV will come fitted with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor belting out a max power output of 41PS, along with a peak torque of 110Nm.
  • The vehicle is set to have a 17.3kWh battery pack which boasts a range of up to 230km, and can be fully charged in 7 hours using a 3.3 kW AC charger.

Competitor

Currently, the MG Comet EV has no direct rival in the Indian market. It can be seen as an affordable alternative to the Tata Tiago EV (Rs 8.69 โ€“ 11.99 lakh) and Citroen eC3 (Rs 11.50 โ€“ 12.43 lakh).
