Matter Aera Electric Bike Launched At Rs 1.44 Lakh

The Ahmedabad-based electric startup, Matter Energy, has launched its first electric bike, the Aera. For now, the e-bike is available in two variants: Aera 5000, priced at Rs 1,43,999 and Aera 5000+ which costs Rs 1,53,999 (both prices ex-showroom, India, including FAME-II subsidy). Two more variants of the bike – Aera 4000 and Aera 6000+, will be introduced in the near future.

Bookings for the Matter Aera will commence in the coming days, and its deliveries are likely to start by the summer season. However, the exact date is yet to be revealed.

Matter Energy claims that it will open its first experience centre in Ahmedabad in the next 45 days and will have 20 dealerships across the country within three months. It is expected that by the end of this year, the number will grow to approximately 100.

Both the Matter Aera 5000 and 5000+ get a liquid-cooled, 5kWh battery pack that claims a real-world range of approximately 125 kilometres on a single charge. Its IP65-rated, liquid-cooled, mid-mounted motor offers a claimed peak power output of 10.5kW and an impressive torque of 520Nm. Interestingly, it’s the only bike in its class to get a 4-speed manual gearbox with a clutch and a transparent cover. Both variants are compatible with standard and fast-charging capabilities.

Matter energy is providing a 3-year warranty on both the bike and its battery pack.

Underpinnings and Features

When it comes to features, both the Matter Aera 5000 and 5000+ pack a bifunctional led projector headlamp, a 7-inch touchscreen display with optional Bluetooth connectivity (standard with 5000+ variant), 4G connectivity with OTA updates support, onboard navigation, three riding modes and a nine-axis IMU. They also get park assist, keyless operation, USB mobile charging port, progressive blinkers and welcome lights. In addition, the Aera 5000+ variant also gets a lifestyle and care package, details of which will be revealed later.

The Matter Aera is based on a double cradle frame, suspended on a telescopic fork at the front and twin gas-charged shocks at the rear. Anchoring duties are taken care of by disc brakes at both ends with a dual-channel Antilock Braking System (ABS).

Competitors

In the electric bike segment, the Matter Aera rivals the likes of the Revolt RV 400 and the Torq Kratos.
