BYD Seal Electric Sedan Listed On Its Indian Website; Launch Expected Soon

BYD Auto showcased the Tesla Model 3-rivalling Seal electric sedan in India at the 2023 Auto Expo last month. It has now been listed on its Indian website, suggesting that it could be a part of this year’s launch plans. With this, it will become the third model from the carmaker to be launched here. We expect it to hit our shores around the festive season.

Globally, the BYD Seal comes with two battery pack options: 61.44 kWh and 82.56 kWh. It can be had in both rear-wheel drive (single motor) and all-wheel drive (dual-motor) configurations, delivering a maximum output of up to 312PS and 523PS, respectively. Speaking of performance, its AWD model can make the 0-100 kmph sprint in merely 3.8 seconds and can offer a range of up to 700 kilometres on a single charge.

BYD Seal Cell-To-Body (CTB) technology

The BYD Seal is based on the brand’s e-Platform 3.0 and features Cell-To-Body (CTB) technology that makes the battery pack a structural part of the car’s body frame (features sandwich structure), thus reducing the overall weight of the car and improving the vehicle safety, stability, handling and performance.

Inspired by the Ocean X concept, the BYD Seal electric sedan features a streamlined design. There are four boomerang-shaped LED DRLs, flush-fitted door handles, a coupe-like glass roof and a full-width LED light bar at the rear. It measures 4800mm in length, 1875mm in width and 1460mm in height, and has an aero drag coefficient of 0.219Cd.

As for features, the electric sedan comes with a rotating 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, two wireless smartphone charging pads, a HUD (head-up display), a premium sound system, heated windscreen and radar-based ADAS active safety features like adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, emergency auto braking and more.

BYD Seal electric sedan india launch

Expect the BYD Seal to be priced from around Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom), making it an affordable alternative to the BMW i4 which is currently priced at Rs 69.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
