Toyota Glanza CNG Incoming; Specifications Leaked

Earlier this year, we reported that Toyota Glanza and Maruti Suzuki Baleno will soon get an eco-friendly CNG powertrain option. And now a leaked type approval certificate of Toyota Glanza CNG has been leaked online, suggesting its launch is just around the corner.

As per the document, all the variants of the Toyota Glanza save for the base-spec E variant will get a CNG powertrain option. The hatch will be powered by the same 1.2-liter, 4-cylinder, DualJet petrol engine as the regular model, albeit mated to a factory-fitted CNG kit. The same powertrain also powers the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Dzire CNG.

It will deliver 77PS of maximum power and 98.5Nm of peak torque in CNG mode, a drop of 13PS and 14.5Nm when compared to the petrol-only mode output. Power delivery will be taken care of by a 5-speed manual transmission. AMT will continue to be limited to the petrol model only.

As for features, all the variants of Glanza CNG will come with the same set of equipment as their standard petrol counterparts. Highlights include alloy wheels, an LED lighting system, 9-inch touchscreen system with connected car tech, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a heads-up display, a 360-degree camera, auto climate control with rear AC vents, and cruise control. The safety kit, on the other hand, consists of up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and much more.

We assume the Toyota Glanza CNG variants to command a premium of around Rs 95,000 over their corresponding petrol trims. For reference, the petrol-powered S, G, and V manual variants of Toyota Glanza currently range between Rs 7.43 lakh to Rs 9.41 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will become the first car in the premium hatchback segment to get a CNG mill. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno will also receive the same treatment in the near future.
