Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ Launched In India

The Mercedes Benz EQS flagship electric sedan has finally been launched in India in a single fully imported 53 AMG 4MATIC+ variant. With this, it has become Mercedes’ second electric car in India after the EQC. It is priced at Rs 2.45 crore (ex-showroom). The carmaker is also willing to also introduce the standard EQS 580 later this year.

Design and Features

The all-new electric sedan is truly the epitome of luxury, featuring intense & imposing futuristic design with key elements including a black panel EV-specific front grille with a 3D star pattern, digital LED headlamps with a connecting light bar, 21-inch multi-spoke light-alloy wheels, curved 3D helix taillamps, a large rear spoiler, and AMG Line body kit. What’s more fascinating is that the Mercedes Benz EQS AMG 4MATIC has a drag coefficient of just 0.20 Cd, which makes it the world’s most aerodynamic production car.

Speaking of the dimensions, the EQS is 5,216mm long, 1,926mm wide, 1,512mm tall, and possesses a wheelbase of 3,210mm.

One glance at the interior of the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ will surely engrave you. The flagship EV features the MBUX Hyperscreen, which comprises three screens that appears as one screen under a glass cover. The other hi-tech interior bits and equipment list comprises: –

  • MBUX Hyperscreen with a 12.3-inch instrument display, 17.7-inch OLED display in the center, and a 12.3-inch display for the front passenger

  • A four-link axle at the front and a multi-link axle at the rear

Powertrain

Mercedes has equipped the EQS sedan with two permanently agitated synchronous motors (PSM), which draw their charge from a 107.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The setup delivers a maximum power of 762PS and a peak torque of 1020Nm, which authorizes the electrified sedan to hit the 100kmph mark from standstill in just 3.4 seconds. It is claimed to deliver a WLTP-tested range of about 526-580 kilometers on a single charge.

As for charging, it supports ultra-fast charging of up to 200 kW that can energize its battery pack up to 80% in less than 32 min.

Rivals

In the Indian market, the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ will take on the likes of the Audi RS e-tron GT (Rs 1.89 Cr) and Porsche Taycan (Rs 1.53 – 2.34 Cr).

Mercedes has also announced to launch the EQB electric SUV in India in Q4 2022. In addition, three new EVs are also slated to be unveiled globally in the coming months. The carmaker is also striving to attain complete carbon neutrality by 2039.
