Kia Seltos Gets 6 Airbags As Standard; Prices Up By Rs 30,000

As we’ve reported last week, Kia India has updated the Seltos SUV with standard 6 airbags, comprising dual-front airbags, front side airbags, and curtain airbags. Until now, the Seltos was equppied with four airbags from the base variant, whereas the curtain airbags were limited to the top-spec HTX+, GTX(O), GTX+, and X-Line variants. With this, the prices of Kia Seltos have also gone up by up to Rs 30,000. Here’s a look at its revised variant-wise price list: –

Kia Seltos safety features

Kia offers the Seltos with two petrol and one diesel engine options: 115PS/144Nm 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol (6-speed manual/CVT automatic), 140PS/242Nm 1.4-litre turbo-petrol (6-speed manual/7-speed DCT), and 115PS/250Nm 1.5-litre diesel (6-speed manual/torque converter automatic).

The Korean carmaker could also update its Sonet sub-4m SUV with similar sort of changes in the near future.

Kia Seltos crash test rating

Author’s Take

Recently, we’ve seen that the Kia Caren, which is built on the same platform as the Kia Seltos and comes with standard 6 airbags, secured a 3-star safety rating in the crash test conducted by Global NCAP. So we don’t have much hope from the updated Kia Seltos. However, it will definitely provide more protection to the rear passengers than earlier. But it would have been better if the Kia had also worked on the structural rigidity of the car, which was rated as unstable when crash tested in November 2021.
