2024 Hyundai IONIQ 6 Electric Streamliner Revealed Globally

Korean automobile giant, Hyundai Motors has finally taken the wraps off the highly anticipated IONIQ 6 electric sedan. It is the second model in its dedicated all-electric IONIQ lineup after the IONIQ 5 which will lock horns with the Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2 in international markets.

Hyundai IONIQ 6 – Exterior Design

Based on Hyundai’s Prophecy EV concept, the IONIQ 6 features a single-curved streamline that extends from front to rear with minimal restraints, and so the company calls it an “Electrified Streamliner”. It sports an aerodynamically sculpted silhouette with elegantly designed uncluttered sensuous curves and lines, giving it a futuristic look. Thanks to its low nose, active air flaps at the front, wheel gap reducers, elliptical wing-inspired spoiler with winglet, slight boat-tail structure, fully covered undercarriage and optional slim digital side mirrors, it has an extremely low drag coefficient of just 0.21.

The brand further claims that the electrified streamliner melds over 700 signature Ioniq Parametric Pixels in various places such as headlamps, rear combination lamps, front lower sensors, air vent garnishes, and center console indicators.

Hyundai IONIQ 6 – Interior and Features

Since the IONIQ 6 is based on the Hyundai’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) platform, it gets a completely flat floor, offering a wide sense of spaciousness. Its dashboard design is somewhat similar to the IONIQ 5; however, there’s a bridge-type center console that gives it a different appeal.

As for features, the IONIQ 6 is pure tech-savvy, comprising advanced features such as dual 12-inch screens for infotainment and driver’s display, 60-colour dual-color ambient lighting, a two-spoke steering wheel with 4-dot interactive Pixel Lights on the steering wheel.

The EV also uses sustainable materials and colors to reflect the brand’s commitment to clean mobility values. These includes eco-process leather seats, recycled PET fabric seats (depending on the variant), bio TPO skin for the dashboard, bio PET fabric for the headliner, bio paint derived from vegetable oils (doors), and recycled fishing net carpet.

Powertrain

Hyundai is yet to share the powertrain details of the upcoming IONIQ 6 Streamliner, but it is expected to be driven by either a single rear-wheel-drive or dual all-wheel-drive electric motors, alongside two battery pack options. It is likely to offer a driving range of over 480km on a single charge.

Similar to the recently launched Kia EV6, the IONIQ 6 is also expected to offer both V2V and V2L support that can even supply power to another EV or to your household electronic items.

More details about the EV will be revealed in July 2022.

Will it make its way to India?

While Hyundai hasn’t made any official announcement regarding its India launch, it could hit our shores sometime in 2024. As for now, the brand is gearing up to launch the IONIQ 5 electrified coupe in India in the second half of 2022.
