Jeep Meridian Vs Jeep Compass: Key Differences!

Jeep has entered the 7-Seater SUV segment with the Meridian. It shares lots of similarities with its younger sibling, the Jeep Compass. However, there are some differentiating elements that possess a unique identity to the Meridian. So without wasting any time, let’s see how these two models differ from each other: –

Exterior Changes

Funnily enough, even though the Meridian is referred to as the 7-Seater Compass, Jeep has stated that the Meridian’s design cues are much more similar to the Grand Cherokee instead.

Jeep Meridian specifications

Visually on the exterior, the Meridian’s body panels are unique to its design language, with much more sharp creases and cuts, rather than the Compass’s curvier body. Towards the front, the Meridian gets a different much more upright stance front bumper with newer LED lights, and sports the same iconic Jeep 7-Slated grille. Towards the rear, we see the same upright design with a revamped back panel, which gets a much sleeker and sharper taillamp design in comparison to the Compass.

Interior Changes and Tech Onboard

Jeep Meridian Interior

Interior design cues are where you would think all the similarities lie, and you would probably be right. On the inside, apart from a new black and brown dual-tone theme and of course the added third row making the Meridian a capable 7-Seater. The whole cabin layout is similar in both cars with the 10.1-inch infotainment screen, a 9-speaker audio system, dual-zone climate control, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, electronic parking brake, up to six airbags, hill start assist, a tire pressure monitoring system and 360-degree camera being some notable features common in both.

The Meridian also gets a powered tailgate, something missing in the Compass.

Engine and Powertrain Options

The Meridian comes with a sole 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine that outputs 170PS and 350Nm of torque and comes paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The Compass, however, along with the same diesel engine gets the option of a 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine as well. Both cars come with 4×4 capability.

Variants on Offer

While the Jeep Compass comes in almost 6 variants: Sport, Longitude, Night Eagle, Limited, Limited (O), and Model S; from base to top in that order, the Meridian on the other hand is only offered with two variants, Limited and Limited (O).

Price

The Jeep Compass is priced between Rs 18.04 lakh to Rs 29.59 lakh, while the Meridian ranges from Rs 29.90 lakh to Rs 36.95 lakh (both prices ex-showroom Delhi).
