Ola Recalls 1,440 Units Of S1 Pro For Health Checkup

Ola Electric has issued a voluntary recall for 1,440 units of S1 Pro electric scooters to conduct a detailed diagnostics and health check. All the recalled units belong from that specific batch of that S1 Pro unit which was caught in a fire incident last month on the outskirts of Pune. Okinawa Autotech has also taken similar measures amidst rising EV fire incidents in the country.

The Bengaluru EV maker has stated that their service engineers will do a proper examination of all-electric systems of the e-scooters, including the battery, thermal, and safety systems.

Since Ola Electric does not have any dealerships in the country, it will be interesting to see how they handle the recall process of the S1 Pro. We will update the story once we get any updates from the EV manufacturer.

The reason behind the Ola S1 Pro fire incident is yet to be revealed as the brand is still investigating the case. That could be due to a faulty battery or a poor Battery Management System (BMS). Here you can read about the possible reasons for EV fire.

Author’s Take

EV batteries catching fire is highly tragic, and such incidents take away people’s trust from it. However, we also have to understand that the EV market is still in its nascent stage and the more issues arriving, the better we’ll be prepared to tackle them in the future. But companies will also have to design their vehicles considering the Indian climate conditions. We believe that the technology will improve over time, and the frequency of such issues will reduce.
