Honda City Hybrid Variants and Specification Leaked Ahead Of Debut Tomorrow

  • Honda City Hybrid (e: HEV) will get a 98PS 1.5-liter petrol engine, paired with a strong hybrid system.
  • Likely to be offered in two variants: V and ZX.
  • The top-spec ZX will come equipped with ADAS tech.
  • Likely to return a fuel efficiency of around 28kmpl.

The Indian-spec Honda City e: HEV aka the City Hybrid is all set to make its debut tomorrow. But ahead of its official arrival, the specifications of the sedan have been revealed through a leaked RTO document.

Going by the transport department’s document, the Indian-spec Honda City e: HEV will come in two trims: V and ZX. It will get the same mechanical setup as its Thai-spec model, comprising a 98PS 1.5-liter petrol engine linked to a 109PS AC synchronous electric motor. There will also be another motor that will act as a starter-generator.

Similar to the global-spec version, the Indian bound City Hybrid is also expected to be driven in pure electric mode as well as a mix of both petrol & electric propulsion. For that, the HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) will get a lithium-ion battery of 0.734kWh capacity that weighs 14.5kg. Expect Honda City Hybrid to return a fuel efficiency of around 28kmpl.

The leaked document also reveals that the top-spec ZX trim of the City HEV will come with Honda Sensing technology, which is essentially Honda’s trademark for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that includes active safety features like adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning system, and collision mitigation braking system, etc.

Dimensionally, the Honda City e: HEV measures similar to its standard counterpart. However, the addition of the hybrid system (termed as i-MMD (intelligent multi-mode drive)) adds over 100kg to the City’s gross vehicle weight.

While it is not official, Honda could also offer the City in a sportier-looking RS variant that will get minor dynamic-looking magnifications such as sportier skid plates at both bumpers, blacked-out grille, ORVMs, rear spoiler, and an all-black cabin with red highlights.

Considering all the changes, we expect Honda to price the City e: HEV from around Rs 17.5 lakh (ex-showroom), making it India’s most affordable self-charging strong hybrid car.
