2022 Yamaha MT-15 V2.0 Launched At Rs 1.60 Lakh

Yamaha India has launched the refreshed and upgraded version (V2.0) of the MT-15 naked streetfighter in India at a starting price of Rs 1,59,900 (ex-showroom), making it Rs 13,000 dearer than its predecessor. While the MT-15 doesnโ€™t have a direct rival in our country, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and KTM 125 Dule can be seen as its worthy alternatives.

2022 Yamaha MT-15 V2.0 โ€“ Whatโ€™s New?

With the latest update, Yamaha has worked on both the visual as well as dynamic aspects of the MT-15. For starters, it has received two new paint schemes: Cyan Storm and Racing Blue (replacing Dark Matt Blue shade), with upgraded graphics, giving it a refreshing appeal. The bikemaker has also equipped the new MT-15 with a golden USD front fork and aluminium swingarm. It also receives a new Bluetooth-enabled digital instrument cluster (borrowed from the R15 V4) that can enable call & SMS alerts, mobile battery status, and more on the display. It will also display a customizable animated text when the ignition is turned on. However, the navigation has been given a miss, which is disheartening.

The engine is the same VVA-equipped, fuel-injected 155cc unit that also powers the highly popular R15 supersport bike, producing 18.4PS at 10,000rpm and a peak torque output of 14.1Nm at 7,500rpm. It comes mated to a 6-speed transmission with an assist-&-slipper clutch for smooth and pleasant downshifts. Even the braking system, consisting of a 282mm disc up front and a 220mm disc at the rear, with a single-channel ABS, remains unchanged. It would have been better if Yamaha had equipped it with a dual-channel Antilock Braking System.

Commenting on its launch, Mr. Eishin Chihana, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India Group of Companies said, โ€œYamaha Fans have always praised the MT-15 for its impeccable handling and performance but have been eagerly waiting for a more evolved version of the Dark Warrior. The launch of the new MT-15 Version 2.0 is a perfect representation of Yamaha being able to meet its customer expectations, as a part of its ongoing โ€˜The Call of the Blueโ€™ brand strategy. We are confident that with the new set of features and technology, the MT-15 Version 2.0 will attract more young riders who are in search of a premium street-naked motorcycle that strikes the perfect balance between weekend rides and daily commuting needs.โ€
