Select Maruti Suzuki dealers across the country have started accepting unofficial bookings for the upcoming Celerio CNG. It is likely to be launched in the second half of January 2022.

Maruti Suzuki had launched the second-generation Celerio in November 2021, during which the company had revealed that the CNG version would be brought later. Currently, the hatchback is powered by a new 1.0-liter 3-cylinder DualJet Dual-VVT Dual-Injector petrol engine, coupled with a first-in-segment idle start/stop system. It is good at producing 67PS and 89Nm and gets a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard along with an optional 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).

In petrol guise, the new Celerio is claimed to be India's most fuel-efficient car. It has an ARAI-certified fuel economy of 26.68kmpl for AMT and 25.24kmpl for the manual variants. Expect its CNG version to deliver better mileage than its predecessor's 30.47km/kg claimed figure. Regardless, it will certainly deliver lower power and torque when running on greener fuel.

The CNG option may be restricted with the hatchback’s lower and mid-variants only, and they’re expected to retail at a premium of around Rs 65,000. It will get a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. Once launched, it will go up against the Hyundai Santro CNG and the upcoming Tata Tiago CNG whose unofficial bookings have also commenced for a token amount of Rs 11,000.

Besides Celerio CNG, Maruti Suzuki also has plans to launch a slew of new CNG vehicles in the country, including the Swift, Dzire, and other models.
