Toyota Hilux Pickup Truck India Launch In January 2022

Back in June 2021, we have reported about the Toyota Hilux pickup truck's expected to launch in early 2022, and now various media reports are also implying that it could arrive on our shores in January 2021. Once launched, it will go up against the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, which currently ranges between Rs 16.98 lakh and Rs 24.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

Toyota Hilux india launch

Based on the same IMV-2 platform as the Fortuner SUV and Innova Crysta MPV, the Toyota Hilux measures 5.3 meters in length and has a wheelbase of over 3 meters. That said, it is quite longer than the Fortuner and Innova Crysta. It also gets a distinct design from both of these Toyota offerings, featuring a massive hexagonal grille up front, flanked by projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights. It also gets silver skid plates, side steps, flared wheel arches, black mirror caps, large 18-inch alloy wheels, and sculpted tail-lights, giving it a sporty & rugged appearance.

Inside, it features an all-black dashboard with rich leather upholstery that gives a plush feel. To further glorify the premium ambiance, it gets an 8-inch touchscreen unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, blue colour ambient lighting, a 4.2-inch colour multi-info display, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The other notable features of the upcoming Toyota offering includes automatic AC with rear vents, powered front seats, keyless entry with push start, multiple airbags, Hill Start assist control, Downhill Assist Control, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Active Traction Control (A-TRC), Brake Assist (BA), Trailer Sway Control (TSC), and much more.

Toyota offers the Hilux in Single and Double Cab variants overseas.

The global-spec Toyota Hilux comes with the same engine options as the Fortuner. That said, it uses a 2.4-liter turbo diesel (150PS/400Nm) engine with a two-wheel-drivetrain and 2.8-liter turbo (204PS/up to 500Nm) diesel engine with both 2-and 4-wheel drivetrain options. Transmission choices include 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic units. It is worth noting that the Hilux also offers a 4.0-liter V6 petrol engine in select markets. However, we might only get the 2.4-and 2.8-liter mills with this mighty lifestyle pick-up truck.

We reckon Toyota to price the Hilux between Rs 17 lakh to Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Indian audience.
