MG Hector Super Variant Discontinued

Last month, MG Motor introduced a new Shine variant for its Hector mid-size SUV. Now, the brand has once again rejigged its variant lineup and discontinued its second-to-base Super trim. With this, the SUV will only be available in four trims: Style, Shine, Smart, and Sharp. That said, customers will have to shell out up to Rs 1.5 lakh extra for moving from the base-spec Style to the Shine variant.

Priced from Rs 14.17 lakh to Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), MG Hector's mid-spec Super trim was available with petrol, petrol-hybrid, and diesel engine options, albeit only with the 6-speed manual transmission. On the other hand, the recently launched Shine variant also gets CVT automatic option with the petrol mill and comes with a host of additional features over the Super trim such as a single-pan electric sunroof, chrome-finished door handles, keyless entry using the smart key, push-button start/stop, electric parking brake with auto-hold, and a telescopic adjustment function for the steering wheel, etc. Needless to say, you will have to shell out a premium of up to Rs 50,000 for the Shine variant over the now discontinued Super trim. However, there’s no mild-hybrid option on offer with the Hector Shine.

The Hector Shine has two engines on offer: 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol (143PS/250Nm) and 2.0-litre turbo-diesel (170PS/350Nm). Both mills get a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, the petrol motor also comes with an optional 8-speed CVT automatic unit.

Apart from discontinuing the Super trim, no other changes have been made to the SUV. It will continue to retail from Rs 13.50 lakh to Rs 19.36 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and rival the likes of Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.

In other updates, the MG India is all set to launch the Astor SUV on 7th October. It is essentially a petrol-powered version of the ZS SUV that will come with a host of segment-first features like level-2 ADAS, personal AI assistant, heated ORVM, etc. Click here for details.
