Tata Motors Crosses Over 10,000 Sales Milestone For Electric Cars

Tata Motors has achieved a new milestone of selling 10,000 electric cars in the Indian market. With this, the brand has taken an unexpected lead in the EV segment by capturing more than 70 percent of it. Currently, Tata has a total of three EVs in its product portfolio that includes Nexon EV, Tigor EV, and Xpres-T. While the initial two are for private customers, the Xpres-T is exclusively for commercial and fleet owners.

Commenting on this breakthrough, Mr. Shailesh Chandra, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said –

The achievement of 10,000 EVs on road is a strong testament to how our innovative electric vehicles are resonating well with customers. We are proud to have lived up to the high expectations of the early EV adopters and are thankful to them for their continued trust in the brand. These customers have laid a strong foundation for EV ownership to further expand and have created a path for other prospective buyers to follow.

This huge success can be attributed to the high popularity of Nexon EV, which was launched in January last year. Currently, the Tata Nexon EV is India's highest-selling electric car. It uses a 127PS electric permanent magnet electric motor that draws its charge from a 30.2 kWh battery pack. It is said to offer an ARAI-certified range of 312 km (MIDC cycle). The brand has also recently launched its second EV in the personal segment, the new Tigor EV, which comes with a GNCAP 4-star rating for adult & child occupant protection and boasts of an extended ARAI certified range of 306 km (under standard testing conditions).

Tata is also aggressively expanding its charging network through the help of its sister company Tata Power, which will be a big boon to its EVs in the coming years. The brand also has plans to launch 10 new electric vehicles (EVs) by 2025 in India, including the Altroz EV and Punch EV. Click here for more details.
