Maruti Suzuki Swift Clocks 25 Lakh Unit Sales Milestone In India

India's largest passenger car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki, has recently announced that it has sold over 25 lakh units of Swift hatchback since its debut in May 2005. In its 16 years of existence, the Swift has undergone three-generation and multiple facelift upgrades. The latest one was launched earlier this year.

Speaking on the milestone, Mr. Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said –

With its launch in 2005, Swift heralded the start of the premium hatchback segment in India. The most awarded premium hatchback in the country, Maruti Suzuki Swift is the only car to win the prestigious ICOTY awards for all three generations. Every generation of Maruti Suzuki Swift has been India’s favorite and has won hearts of over 2.5 million Swift lovers. The No. 1 selling car of FY20-21, the sporty Swift has created a glorious legacy with its scintillating looks and power packed performance.

For those who aren't aware, the Maruti Suzuki Swift recorded the 1 million sales milestone in India in the year 2013, while the second million sales mark was achieved in the next five years, i.e., in 2018. And now, within 3 years, the brand has once again gained half a million sales of the mid-sized hatchback.

Currently, the Maruti Swift comes with a 1.2-liter DualJet petrol engine (90PS/113Nm), paired to either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. It is claimed to deliver a fuel economy of 23.20kmpl with manual and 23.76kmpl with AMT unit. Its highly popular 1.3-liter diesel version was discontinued last year with the initiation of the BS6 era. However, the brand is working on its CNG version that is expected to be launched in the coming months.

Maruti offers the Swift in four broad trims: LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+, which are priced between Rs 5.85 lakh to Rs 8.67 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), putting it in the league of Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Renault Triber, and soon-to-be-discontinued Ford Figo and Freestyle
