India's most selling premium hatchback, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, has recently been spied testing, indicating yet another update to the hatchback. The spy images suggest that the Maruti Baleno has undergone an extensive set of updates.
The latest spy shots reveal that the new Baleno will feature a revised rear bumper, differently designed alloy wheels, and squarish-shaped tail lamps instead of the round units on the existing model. This also implies that the front profile of the hatchback will also experience subtle changes in the form of a new design for the front grille, bumper, and headlamp units. The brand is also expected to improve its sheet metal quality.
The interior of the 2022 Maruti Baleno has also been partially snapped, which shows that its dashboard layout has been completely revamped. It now features a floating infotainment screen that looks bigger than the existing 7-inch integrated unit. The central air-con vents are now placed horizontally below the infotainment display. There is also a refreshed 3-spoke steering wheel that seems borrowed from the Maruti Swift. Besides, one can also spot its instrument cluster that looks similar to the existing model, featuring two analogue pods with a color MID.
While the details of its features are yet to be revealed, we assume the new Baleno to be equipped with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, revised seat upholstery, and connected car technology.
We do not expect any changes on the mechanical front. The new Baleno will retain its ongoing 83PS 1.2-liter K12B petrol and 90PS 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol unit with mild-hybrid technology. A 5-speed manual and CVT automatic transmission options are also expected to be carried over.
Maruti Suzuki is likely to launch the upgraded Baleno in the first half of 2021. Expect it to be priced at a significant premium over the current model that retails between Rs 5.98 lakh and Rs 9.30 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Once launched, it will rekindle its competition with the Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz, Toyota Glanza, Volkswagen Polo, and Honda Jazz.
