Volkswagen Taigun Series Production And Official Bookings Commenced

Series production of the Volkswagen Taigun has commenced in India, with the first car being rolled out today from the SAVWIPL (Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd) plant in Chakan, Pune. Bookings for the SUV have also been begun officially, with customer deliveries to start from September 2021.

Volkswagen Taigun specs

The Taigun is the first highly localized product from Volkswagen under the India 2.0 project. It will be based on the new modular MQB-A0-IN platform, which also underpins its cousin rival Skoda Kushaq.

Not only the underpinnings, the equipment list and powertrains will also be shared between both the SUVs. That said, the VW Taigun will also be a petrol-only model, powered by either a 1.0-liter turbocharged (115PS/178Nm) or a 1.5-liter turbocharged unit (150PS/250Nm). While both engines will get a 6-speed manual as standard, the former will be available with a 6-speed torque converter, while the bigger capacity mill will get an optional 7-speed DSG (dual-clutch automatic) transmission.

In terms of features, the Volkswagen has equipped the Taigun with an all-LED lighting system, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control with the touch-based panel, rear AC vents, an electric sunroof, cruise control and more. Safety features will include up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, low tire pressure warning, electronic stability control, and rear parking sensors with a reverse camera. To know more about the VW Taigun, read our in-depth first-drive review.
