Ford Figo Likely To Get Automatic Variants In Coming Weeks

Ford will soon add an automatic transmission option to Figo's line-up. It is likely to be launched in the coming weeks. In fact, Ford has also begun the staff training at the dealerships level.

Currently, the Ford Figo is available with two engine options: 1.2-liter petrol (96PS/119Nm) and a 1.5-liter diesel (100PS/215Nm) engine. Both mills are only offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox for quite some time now. However, the automatic gearbox will be added to only petrol versions of the American hatchback. It will be a 6-speed torque converter unit that is already available with Ford EcoSport. This 3-cylinder Dragon series petrol engine is known for its strong mid-range, impressive performance, and thrifty fuel economy of 18.5kmpl. However, the mileage figures are likely to go down with the automatic transmission unit.

Since Figo, Aspire and Freestyle are based on the same platform and share mechanicals and features list with each other, Ford may offer this gearbox option along with its sub-4 meter sedan and crossover siblings. While it is not official, Ford could also introduce some new features, based on dealer feedback about customer requirements.

As of now, Ford Figo petrol is only available in three variants: Ambiente, Titanium, and Titanium Blu, which are priced between Rs 5.82 lakh and Rs 7.27 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Expect the Figo Automatic variants to command a premium of around Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh over their manual counterparts. We believe only the higher variants will get the automatic transmission option.

In the other news, Ford has recently discontinued the base-spec Titanium 4×2 variant of the Ford Endeavour. With this, the starting price of the full-sized SUV has gone up by Rs 3.80 lakh. Besides, the American carmaker is also gearing up to give the EcoSport sub-compact SUV a mid-life update. Revealed by the spy shots, it is likely to get a revised front-end along with some new features.
