New Mercedes-Benz S-Class Launched In India At A Starting Price Of Rs 2.17 Crore

The 7th-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W223) has been launched in India. Brought as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), the 2021 S-Class is offered in a sole fully-loaded, Launch Edition which is based on the AMG Line trim. Interestingly, 150 units of the new S-class Launch Edition were already been booked before its launch.

2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class – What's New?

The new S-Class has taken a quantum jump on numerous aspects, including design, comfort, tech, and safety traits when compared to its predecessor. Starting with its exterior bits, the new S-Class features Mercedes’ new ‘Digital Light’ LED headlights with 1.3-million micro-mirrors that not only throw light but also projects guidelines & symbols on the road surface. It also gets a new chrome-laden grille with three horizontal blades, flush-type door handles, and AMG-specific sportier bumpers as well as 20-inches of dual-tone alloy wheels. Also, part of the kit is the twin chrome-finished exhaust tips and a new horizontal split LED tail lamps along with a chrome strip running across the width of the car. 

The 2021 S-Class has also grown in size. The car is now 34mm lengthier, 22mm wider, 12mm higher, whereas it's wheelbase is up by 51mm resulting in 24mm more legroom in the second row. Here's a look at the complete dimensions: –

Interior & Features 

Similar to the exterior, the interior of the updated S-Class has also undergone a comprehensive overhaul, and one of the most notable changes is the addition of the Mercedes' latest 12.8-inch vertically oriented second-gen MBUX infotainment system that controls each function of the car. It comes with 16GB of RAM and 320GB of SSD storage space, and to keep your data safe, the brand has equipped it with security features like facial, voice, and fingerprint recognition. These authentication features also allow the driver to automatically adjust the cabin settings, digital payments, and gesture controls.

While the new S-Class ditched the older twin-screen setup, the customizable 12.3-inch digital driver’s display continues to be there behind the steering wheel. There’s also an option of a 3D view for the cluster that follows the driver's eyes using stereo cameras and creates a 3D-looking interface accordingly.

Further, the 2021 S-Class saloon also gets redesigned dashboard layout with newly styled air-con vents and a flat-bottomed AMG steering wheel with touch-based controls and buttons.

In the second row, the S-Class features a bench seat with the outer two seats getting electric adjustment functions. It also gets leg-rest and massage functions. The brand also offering this luxury sedan with the chauffeur package that adds co-driver seat adjustment from the rear, two rear-seat entertainment, and a 7-inch MBUX tablet on the rear armrest to control various in-car functions from the comfort of twin lounge-like rear seats. 

The other notable features of the S-Class include the 64-color active ambient lighting, powered front seats with massaging function, neck warmers, wireless charging, .31-speaker Burmester 4D sound system, four-zone climate control, head-up display with augmented reality, connected car tech, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, panoramic sunroof, air suspension, 10-airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, front & rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, tire pressure monitor, autonomous parking assist, and Pre-safe with impulse side that raises & stiffens the air suspension on a particular side if it detects an impact, to channel the force towards the floorboard, thus safeguarding the passengers from any severe injury.

Color Options 

Mercedes has offered the 2021 S-Class in a total of five exterior color options – Designo Diamond White, Onyx Black, Anthracite Blue, Rubellite Red, and Emerald Green. The interior, on the other hand, gets the choice of sienna brown and black, or all-beige upholstery.
