Toyota Trademarked Corolla Quest In India

Japanese automaker Toyota has registered the Corolla Quest name in India. We all know that Corolla is a renowned name for Toyota in the global market and comes in different forms like sedan, station wagon, crossover, etc. The brand had discontinued the Corolla Altis sedan from the Indian market last year before the BS6 emission regulations came into effect. And, now this trademark filing suggests that the famous badge could make a comeback.

The Corolla Quest is already on sale in several markets. It is basically an updated version of the Corolla Altis that comes with a more powerful 1.8-liter engine (136PS/173Nm) along with a refreshed design and new features. Considering the fact that Skoda is gearing up to launch the next-generation Octavia, Toyota may also bring back its iconic sedan in the Indian market. If it comes, it is likely to get a hybrid powertrain.

There are also some rumors that Toyota could use this nomenclature for the rebadged version of the Ciaz sedan. However, according to us, there are very few chances for this because the Corolla Altis (before its discontinuation) was a much more premium offering than the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. So, giving the same title to a segment-below car won't be appropriate. Also, we can't deny the fact that Toyota has also trademarked the Belta nameplate a few months ago, which the brand had used some years ago in North American, Japanese, and Australian markets for the Yaris/Vios, which is at present is in direct competition with Maruti Ciaz. So, the name Belta will better suit the upcoming Toyota-badged Ciaz sedan. Also, it will replace the existing model of Toyota Yaris in the Indian market.

Toyota's version of Ciaz is expected to be launched by August 2021. It will get subtle exterior design changes compared to its donor model, especially in the front facia. Also, the brand could offer it with a more reliable warranty package than what Maruti offers. Expect it to be launched between Rs 8.5 lakh to Rs 11.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
