BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe Is Now More Affordable; Gets A New Base Variant

BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is the most affordable sedan from the Bavarian carmaker in the Indian market. To make it more pocket-friendly, the brand has introduced a new base trim called 220i Sport at Rs 37.90 lakh (ex-showroom). With this, the starting price of the 2 Series Gran Coupe has come down by Rs 2.5 lakh. Here's the complete variant list of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe: –

Variant

Fuel Type

Ex-Showroom Price

220i Sport

Petrol

Rs 37.90 lakh

220d Sportline

Diesel

Rs 40.40 lakh

220i M Sport

Petrol

Rs 40.90 lakh

220d M Sport

Diesel

Rs 42.30 lakh

The 220i Sport is the second petrol variant in the 2 Series's lineup and it is Rs 3 lakh cheaper than the 220i M Sport petrol variant. And because of this huge price difference, the 220i Sport misses out on various features when compared to the 220i M Sport trim. These mainly include the M Aerodynamics package, 17-inch M-branded alloy wheels, ‘M’ brand interior elements, LED fog lamps, wireless charging, digital driver’s display, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and gesture control, etc. Though the list of missing features seems huge, the 220i Sport comes well equipped with features such as LED headlamps with LED DRLs, LED tail lights, an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 5.1-inch MID with an analogue cluster, a 6-speaker audio system, dual-zone climate control, rear AC vents, power-adjustable front seats, cruise control with brake function, ambient lighting, and panoramic sunroof, etc. It also gets three drive modes: ECO PRO, Comfort, and Sport.

Safety, on the other hand, is covered by 6-airbags, ABS, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), run-flat tires, and more.

Powertrain

The BMW Gran Coupe's 220i Sport trim is powered by the same 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine as the 220i M Sport that generates 190PS and 280Nm. It comes paired with a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox that drives the front wheels. It can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 7.1 seconds and delivers a claimed efficiency of 14.82kmpl.

Color Options

BMW is offering the 220i Sport in a total of five exterior shades: Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Melbourne Red, Storm Bay, and Seaside Blue. Compared to the M Sport trim, it misses out on Misano Blue and Snapper Rocks Blue body color options.

Competitors

Currently, this entry-level BMW sedan doesn't have any direct rival in India. But it will soon face competition from the upcoming Audi A3 sedan and Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine.
