Volkswagen Tiguan To Make A Comeback Soon

German carmaker Volkswagen is gearing up to launch the 5-seater Tiguan SUV once again, albeit in a facelifted avatar. It could hit the Indian showrooms by May 2021. For the people not in know, it was discontinued last year before the emission norms kicked in the country.

Being a facelift model, the VW Tiguan will receive a host of cosmetical changes as well as additional features. The aesthetical changes might include new LED headlamps & taillamps, updated bumpers, redesigned alloy wheels, and a new steering wheel. On the other hand, the features addition could contain a digital driver’s display, a touch-based climate control panel, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charger, and connected car tech. Besides this, it will continue to get features like three-zone climate control, keyless entry with push engine start button, powered driver’s seat, tyre pressure monitoring system, a panoramic sunroof, electrically operated tailgate, cruise control, six airbags, ABS, electronic stability control (ESC), hill hold control, ISOFIX child seat anchors, front and rear parking sensors, etc.

The most significant difference will be under the bonnet in the form of a new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine (borrowed from the Tiguan Allspace), which will replace the older 2.0-litre diesel motor. This new engine generates 190PS and 320Nm and will come mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT). It is also expected to get the 4Motion all-wheel drivetrain as standard.

The facelifted Tiguan is likely to demand a premium over its earlier price range of Rs 28.05 lakh to 31.44 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India). Once launched, it will continue to rival the Jeep Compass and the upcoming Citroen C5 Aircross which is scheduled to be launched on 7th April 2021.

In the other news, Volkswagen will also launch the Creta-rivaling Taigun compact SUV by June 2021. Along with this, the brand has also confirmed bringing the second lot of the T-Roc and 7-seater Tiguan Allspace to our shore. Even the brand has already announced the prices of the 2021 T-Roc SUV
