Maruti Suzuki Jimny Launch Still Uncertain

One of the biggest attractions of Auto Expo 2020, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny's launch is still in disarray. Recently, the Executive Director of Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India, Shashank Srivastava, said that the brand is currently evaluating the feasibility and various market aspects of launching the Jimny in the domestic market. So, currently, there is no assurance about Jimny's future in India. But the official has stated that they get a huge response from the media and buyers when it was showcased at the Auto Expo. Hence, Suzuki might consider this off-roader for the country.

Lanching the Jimny in India won't be a challenge for the Maruti Suzuki as the brand is already manufacturing and exporting the 3-door version of Jimny from its Gurgaon-based facility to the Middle East, Latin America, and African markets. However, there are speculations that its 5-door version could make its way to our shore. But making a 5-door version would be a costly affair. Taking reference from the 3-door Mahindra Thar, it costs between Rs 12.10 lakh to Rs 14.15 lakh (both ex-showroom). And, a higher asking price could just head towards lower demand.

If the Jimny does make its way to the Indian market, it is not gonna be cum before 2022. Here it will rival the likes of Mahindra Thar and the upcoming Force Gurkha.
