Renault Kiger – Which Variant Should you Buy?

The hotly contested sub-4m SUV segment has recently got its 9th entrant in the form of Renault Kiger. It ranges between Rs 5.45 lakh to Rs 9.55 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom), making it the most affordable car in its segment. But do you have to compromise on the features front because of the low price? Well, not much. The Kiger packs a decent set of equipment that will meet everything you need. Here we have compiled all the features available on each variant of this French SUV. But before we head to the details of the variant-wise features, first have a look at its engine specifications, color options & other details.

Renault Kiger – Engine Specifications

For the people not in know, the Kiger shares its platform and engine options with the Nissan Magnite. That said, it is also available with two 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder petrol engines: a naturally aspirated (NA) and a turbocharged unit. Their specifications are as follows: –

 Engine

1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol

1.0-litre turbocharged petrol

No of Cylinders

3

3

Power

72PS

100PS

Torque

96Nm

160Nm

Gearbox Options

5-speed manual / 5-speed AMT

5-speed manual / CVT

The power figures of Renault Kiger are identical to the Magnite. However, unlike the Nissan SUV, the Kiger is offered with the choice of an AMT (automated manual transmission) with the naturally aspirated motor. Further, the turbo engine also gets three driving modes (Normal, Eco, and Sport), which are missing in its Japanese counterpart.

Colors Options

Renault is offering six monotones shades with the Kiger – Radiant Red, Caspian Blue, Moonlight Silver, Planet Grey, Ice cool white, and Mahogany Brown. It is important to note that the Radiant Red color is exclusively available with the top-spec RXZ trim. Furthermore, all variants can also be had with a gloss black roof for an additional Rs 17,000. However, all these aforementioned colors will be available in a dual-tone shade, but only for the RXZ variant. The other variants only get dual-tone Caspian Blue and Moonlight Silver color options.

Renault Kiger – Variant-wise features details

1. Renault Kiger RXE

NA Petrol Variants

Manual

AMT

RXE (NA Petrol)

Rs 5.45 lakh

Key Features: –

  • Exterior: – Halogen headlamps, LED DRLs, C-shaped LED tail lamps, black colored ORVMs with turn Indicators, 16-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, rear spoiler, silver roof rails.
  • Interior: – Muted melange fabric seat upholstery, a high center console with armrest and open
  • Comfort & Convenience: – Manual AC with heater, 100% foldable rear seat, front power windows, front adjustable headrests, manually adjustable outside mirrors, 12V charging socket in front & rear, 3.5-inch LED MID
  • Infotainment/Entertainment – NIL
  • Safety: – Dual front airbags (driver + co-driver side), ABS with EBD, speed alert system, front seat belt reminder, rear parking sensors, and load Limiter + pre-tensioner (driver side only).

Who Should Buy this variant? – We won't suggest this variant as it misses out on various basic features such as rear power windows, rear adjustable headrests, music system, and many more. Also, it is only available with the 1.0-liter NA engine, which could feel underpowered in full load conditions.

2. Renault Kiger RXL

RXL (1.0L NA Manual)

Rs 6.14 lakh

RXL (1.0L NA AMT)

Rs 6.59 lakh

RXL (1.0L turbo Manual)

Rs 7.14 lakh

Key Features (over RXE variant): –

  • Exterior: – Body-colored door handle, shark fin antenna, and chrome accent on the front grille.
  • Interior: – Piano-black door panels with a chrome strip, glossy black highlights on the three-spoke steering wheel.
  • Comfort & Convenience: – Rear AC vents, rear power windows, electrically adjustable outside mirrors, rear parcel tray, day/night inside rear-view mirror (IRVM), tilt-adjustable steering.
  • Infotainment/Entertainment – Audio system with Bluetooth and USB connectivity, 4 speakers.
  • Safety: – Speed sensing door lock.

Who Should Buy this variant? – The RXL is a second from the base variant and it gets almost all the basic features. However, it still lacks a rear wiper-washer and USB charging ports. Also, the feature add-ons don't fully justify the price premium that it demands over the base trim.

3. Renault Kiger RXT

RXT (1.0L NA Manual)

Rs 6.60 lakh

RXT (1.0L NA AMT) Rs 7.05 lakh

RXT (1.0L Turbo Manual)

Rs 7.60 lakh

RXT (1.0L Turbo CVT)

Rs 8.60 lakh

Key Features (over RXL variant): –

  • Exterior: – Satin Silver Roof Bars (50 kg load carrying capacity), silver-colored rear skid plate, and 16-inch 5-stroke styled flex wheels.
  • Interior: – Centre console with closed storage (tambour door), linear interlock seat upholstery, chrome finishing on AC knobs, and gearbox buttons.
  • Comfort & Convenience: – Height adjustable driver seat, front seatback pockets, rear adjustable headrest, 60:40 split foldable rear seats, rear center armrest with cupholders, keyless entry with start/stop button, dual glove box, rear room lamp, passenger-side vanity mirror.

  • Infotainment/Entertainment – 8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, apple carplay & android auto (through USB), steering wheel mounted audio, and phone controls.
  • Safety: – Front side airbags (total 4 airbags), ISOFIX child seat mounts, rear wiper & washer, rearview camera.

Who Should Buy this variant? – The RXT trim is the most value-for-money variant in our opinion. It gets all the whistles & bells that one could desire in this price range. And if you want the two-pedal convenience, you also get the CVT transmission option with the turbocharged motor, which makes more sense to buy over the NA and AMT variants.

4. Renault Kiger RXZ

RXZ (1.0L NA Manual)

Rs 7.55 lakh

RXZ (1.0L NA AMT) Rs 8 lakh

RXZ (1.0L Turbo Manual)

Rs 8.55 lakh

RXZ (1.0L Turbo CVT)

Rs 9.55 lakh

Key Features (over RXT variant): –

  • Exterior: – Tri-octa LED headlamps, 16-inch diamond-cut dual-tone alloy wheels.
  • Interior: – Quilted emboss seat upholstery, leather wrapping on steering wheel, interior ambient Illumination with control switch.
  • Comfort & Convenience: – 7-inch instrument cluster, automatic climate control, multiple driving modes with a rotary dial, electrically folding outside mirrors (ORVMs), cooled glovebox, drive side one-touch auto up/down window with anti-pinch, PM2.5 air filter for clean air.
  • Infotainment/Entertainment – Steering wheel mounted controls for the instrument cluster, ARKAMYS sound system (4 speakers + 4 tweeters), wireless apple carplay & android auto connectivity,
  • Safety: – Rear defogger.

Who Should Buy this variant? – The Kiger RXZ trim strives to wow the customers with its affordable price and premium features such as tri-octa LED headlamps, wireless apple carplay & android auto, multiple driving modes, arkamys sound system, PM2.5 air filter, etc. However, we still recommend you to buy the turbocharged model. And it would be better if you can extend your budget to the CVT variant.

Official Accessories: –

Renault is also offering five optional accessory packs for the Kiger to enhance its visual appearance as well as its practicality. Click here to know more about these packages.
