Ola Electric Scooter Spied Testing For The First Time

Latest Update: Ola launched the S1 electric scooter in the Indian market on 15th Aug 2021, and over 4,000 units have been delivered so far. Click here for latest updates on Ola Electric.

Ola Electric Mobility, an arm of ride-hailing firm Ola Cabs has started testing its upcoming electric scooter in India and it has been spotted for the first time. Recently, Ola has also signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government for an investment of Rs 2,400 crore for setting up its first production plant, which will have an annual capacity of 2 million units. With this, it will be the largest e-scooter manufacturing facility in the world.

Going by the spy shots, the upcoming e-scooter from Ola looks similar to Etergo’s AppScooter. For the people not in know, the Etergo is a Netherland based electric start-up, which Ola had acquired last year. Similar to the AppScooter, the spied Ola scooter is compact in size and comprises a single-sided telescopic front suspension and a disc brake at the front. One can also notice its twin-pod headlight with its human-eye-like character, surrounded by LED daytime running lamps. No other details have been revealed by the spy shot.

If reports are to be believed, the upcoming Ola scooter is likely to use the same banana-shaped swappable high energy density batteries as the Etergo AppScooter. Except it to deliver a claimed range of over 100km, whereas the AppScooter remits upto 240km on a single charge.

It is expected to get a 6kW electric motor that makes 135Nm of torque. Sources are also suggesting that the Ola scooter can go over 100kmph. The sprint time hasn’t been revealed yet but taking reference from AppScooter, it would be able to accelerate from 0-45kmph in just 3.9 seconds.

Talking about the features, the Ola e-scooter is presumed to get a 7-inch Android-based touchscreen rider console that will come with Bluetooth, LTE, and WIFI connectivity with over-the-air (OTA) update support. It could also offer a 50-litre under-seat storage compartment.

The Ola electric scooter is likely to be launched by mid-2021 and will rival the likes of Ather 450X, Bajaj Chetak electric and the TVS iQube.
