Validity Of Driving Licenses, RC And Other Vehicle Permits Extended Till 31st March 2021

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has once again extended the validity of motor vehicle documents like driving license (DL), registration certificate (RC) of car/bike, fitness, permit (all types), and any other concerned documents related to the Motor Vehicles Act-1988 & Central Motor Vehicle Rules-1989 till 31st March 2021. Earlier, the extension validity was till 31st December, but as the COVID-19 pandemic situations still exist, so to maintain the social distancing and to avoid mass gathering, the govt has further stretched the last date.

As per the notification, the extension implements to those documents only whose validity expired on or after 1st February 2020. The extension applies to all states & union territories in the country.

Taking into consideration the need to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it is further advised that the validity of all of the above-referred documents may be treated to be valid till March 31, 2021. This covers all documents whose validity has expired since 1st February 2020 or would expire by March 31, 2021.

It's the fourth time when the union ministry has announced an extension for the validity of vehicle documents. The Ministry had earlier circulated advisories dated 30th March 2020, 9th June 2020, and 24th August 2020 regarding the same. With this, the extension will register one year since it was announced for the very first time.

Besides this, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has made FASTags compulsory for all four-wheelers from 1st January 2021. To know more about this, click here
