Volkswagen Polo And Vento To Get Dearer In January 2021

As we are moving closer to the new year, automakers are announcing the price hike across their model line-up. Following the suit, German carmaker Volkswagen has also decided to increases the prices of Polo hatchback & Vento sedan by 2.5% due to rising input cost. Besides Volkswagen, companies like Maruti Suzuki, Honda Cars, Nissan, Datsun, Renault, BMW, Audi, Hero MotoCorp, and many other makers have already announced to hike the prices of their vehicles from the new year.

It is important to note that the 2020 year was very unfortunate for the entire world. The Indian automobile industry was already facing a slowdown from the past two years and then the COVID-19 lockdown worsens the situation more. The entire industry was paused for several months. And as a result, the automobile sector went into more major losses. Even though it has been months since the lockdown was lifted, the damage has still not been fully recovered, and the global supply chain is still affected due to various restrictions, which unfortunately making things expensive.

Talking about the VW Polo & Vento, currently, the German hatch is priced between Rs 5.87 lakh and Rs 9.67 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in five trims: Trendline, Comfortline, Highline Plus, GT, and the Red & White Edition. On the other hand, the Vento compact sedan is priced from Rs 8.93 lakh to Rs 13.39 lakh (ex-showroom). It is offered in five variants: Trendline, Comfortline, Highline, Highline Plus, and the Red & White Special Edition.

In terms of powertrain, the Polo is powered by a 1.0-litre MPI petrol (75PS/95Nm) and a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol (110PS/175Nm) engine. The former engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the latter can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The three-box version of Polo hatch i.e., the Vento, is available with only a 110PS 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AT gearbox.

Apart from these two models, VW's India current product lineup also includes the T-Roc & Tiguan Allspace, but the brand hasn't announced to implement the price hike decision on these SUVs.
