About Skoda Karoq

Skoda Karoq is a mid-size SUV, based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform. In India, it was available in a single fully loaded trim and used to offers all the premium features that one could expect from the car of this segment. It mainly includes an all-LED lighting system, automatic headlamps, auto wipers, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a customizable digital driver’s display, dual-zone climate control, rear AC vents, powered front seats, ambient lighting, cruise control, auto-dimming IRVM and many more. In terms of safety features, it used to get up to 9 airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, a rear view camera, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and hill start assist.

The Karoq was powered by a 1.5-liter petrol engine (150PS/250Nm), mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. The same powertrain also powers the Volkswagen T-Roc. This engine also features active cylinder technology, which shuts down two of the four cylinders under low load conditions.

What's Next?

Well, Skoda hasn't made any official announcement regarding reopening the bookings for Skoda Karoq. However, given the popularity of the car, Skoda may consider making or assembling it locally. In fact, the Volkswagen Group is also working on localising the MQB-A0 platform. This could result in a price drop. The Czech carmaker is even about to introduce a compact SUV based on this heavily localised platform to rival the Hyundai Creta & Kia Seltos in India, and that will be based on the Vision IN concept. Its testing mule model has also been spotted recently on Indian roads.
