New Tata Harrier XT+ Variant Launched, Priced At Rs 16.99 lakh

Latest Update: Tata Motors has hiked the prices of the XT+ trim by Rs 21,000. Click here to read the full story.

After Nexon, Tata Motors has now launched a new sunroof equipped variant of the Harrier SUV called 'XT+'. The new XT+ variant sits between the XT and XZ trims in Harrier's line-up. The aim to launch this new variant is to make the sunroof more accessible for the customers, which is a trendy feature nowadays. Earlier, the panoramic feature was limited to XZ+ and XZA+ variants. With this move, the Indian maker is willing to attract more potential buyers.

Tata Harrier XT+: Price

The new Harrier XT+ trim is priced at Rs 16.99 lakh (ex-showroom) which is Rs 59,000 more than the XT petrol variant (Rs 16.40 lakh) whereas it is Rs 1.91 lakh cheaper than the XZ+ manual variant which also offers a panoramic sunroof.

It is important to note that the price of the Harrier XT+ is introductory and will only be applicable for those who book the car in September month only and take delivery before December 31, 2020. Its price will be increased from October 1, 2020.

Features

Apart from the panoramic sunroof, it carries forward all the features of the XT variant on which it is based. This includes 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic projector headlights, front fog lamps, LED daytime running lamps, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play connectivity, push engine start/stop button, auto climate control, steering-mounted audio controls, rain-sensing wipers, and many more.

In terms of safety, it gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, reverse parking camera, hill hold control, and traction control.

Powertrain

Like other variants of Harrier, the new XT+ trim is also powered by the same 2.0-litre, BS6 diesel engine that churns out 170PS of maximum power and 350Nm of peak torque. However, it is only available with 6-speed manual gearbox which sends power to the front wheels. It misses out the option of a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Author's Take

With the introduction of the new XT+ trim, Tata has tried to make this feature more accessible in order to gain more sales. However, it still misses some feel-good features such as a 9-speaker JBL sound system, larger size infotainment system (8.8-inches), powered driver seat, semi-digital instrument display, ECM, and HID headlamps. Compared to its direct rivals, the MG Hector's Sharp petrol variant (Rs 16.63 lakh) is still Rs 36,000 more affordable than the Harrier XT+ trim, however, if you opt for the diesel-powered Hector Sharp variant (Rs 17.88 lakh), it would cost you Rs 89,000 more than Harrier XT+. Other than that, Hyundai Creta also offers the panoramic sunroof, but the Korean offering is a compact SUV whereas the Harrier falls in the mid-size segment.
