2020 Honda WR-V Facelift: Which Variant To Buy?

Honda WR-V has received a mid-life update last month. Though it is not a complete overhaul as the updates have majorly been restricted to cosmetic changes only. The updated Jazz-based crossover is available in two variants: SV and VX. Earlier, it was available in three variants. The company has discontinued its S & V variants. Let’s see what the WR-V's each variant offers:

2020 Honda WR-V: Which variant should you buy?

1. Honda WR-V SV variant

Rs 9.80 Lakhs

  • Exterior:- Starting with the exteriors, the SV variant of the new WR-V comes across visually similar to the top-of-the-line VX trim. Right from the faux plate, roof rails, 16-inch machine-cut alloy wheels (4-spoke for petrol and 5-spoke for diesel variants), DRLs, body-colored ORVMs and door handles, plastic cladding all around the body to a generous chrome treatment upfront, the base variant gets visually striking exteriors and looks good. Though It misses out on the LED projector headlamps and LED fog lamp, with all the design nuances that the SV trim has to offer. It definitely does not come across as an entry-level or a price-compromised trim.

  • Interior:- The SV variant scores decently well even on the features front with the addition of luxuries like automatic climate control, rear-AC Vents, 7.0-inch DigiPad 2.0 touchscreen infotainment system with an in-built navigation system, voice command, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, 4-speakers, semi-digital instrument cluster, steering mounted audio control, keyless entry, Tilt & Telescopic Adjustable steering, height-adjustable driver seat, electrically adjustable ORVM, adjustable headrest (front), fix headrests in the rear, Day/night IRVM, etc.

  • Safety Important safety features like two front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and camera, speed-sensing door lock, rear defogger are being offered as standard

VX variant comes at the price premium of Rs 1.2 Lakhs for both the petrol and diesel engine options over the base SV trim. For this added value, the VX trim gets a fair share of additions over the SV trim.

  • Exterior:- On the outside, the LED treated projector headlamps, LED fog lamps, LED taillamps, shark fin antenna and turn-indicators on ORVM are received as the additions over the SV trim, completing the design of the car.

Honda WR-V sunroof

  • Interior:- Even on the interior feature list front, there are a decent number of inclusions. The electric sunroof, rear wiper and washer on the exterior, cruise control, engine start-stop button, power-folding ORVM, 2 front tweeters, seatback pockets, and leather-wrapped steering wheel, all are value additions

Verdict

Keeping the choice of the engine aside for a moment, both the variants come across as good value for money package. While the price premium of Rs 1.2 Lakhs for the VX variant might sound like a substantial amount but with all the added luxury that offers with the VX, the addition of the price seems justifiable.

If you are still confused which trim would be the ideal pick for you, here are my two cents on the query:-

  1. If you have made up your mind in favor of going for the poster boy trim-VX, go for it. As mentioned above the price tag at which the top trim is offered, the VX offers bang for bucks, advocating each penny of the excess amount spent on it.
  2. If you are a little tight on budget and can do even without features like cruise control, sunroof, and keyless go, which to be honest, will not add much utility to your daily city commutes, SV sounds like a good deal, especially given the fact that it is almost identical on the outside and packs in all the important features.
