Volkswagen Nivus, Mid Segment Coupe SUV unveiled.

The world is opening up to possibilities of the normal, rather efficient functioning of markets after the trend of lockdown leading to a standstill of global communities. Volkswagen has made a literally global statement with the unveiling of the Nivus, a coupe-style SUV which would be the groups’ second product with this design philosophy after the Audi Q3 Sportsback. The Novus was launched through an event in Sao Paulo, Brazil which was streamed globally. The product actually symbolizes something afresh. The car is really a wisp of fresh air from the Volkswagen perspective.

About the VW Nivus

As I said it does stand out from the available Volkwagen offerings from around the world. Volkswagen showcased the car with 17-inch wheels. A length of 4266mm, 1757mm wide, 1483mm tall and a generous 2566mm wheelbase. It stands bigger than T cross with these dimensions. That also translates to a larger boot.

The car boasts of a 10-inch touch screen system that is highly modifiable for the customer’s need and has the complete arsenal of connectivity tools you may require.

VW Nivus Coupe SUV India

Nivus raises some stakes in the market with adaptive cruise control, driver drowsiness detector, digital dashboard. Safety is taken care of with six airbags, automatic emergency braking, and the usual essential features. The car houses keyless go and electronic differential lock as well.

VW Nivus rear look

For now, Nivus houses the three-cylinder 1.0L TSI engine that produces 128 bhp. But a 1.5L variant is also in anticipation. The car with a focus on the eastern European market has a Tiptronic automatic transmission and four-wheel drive variant only.

Author’s take

The Nivus does kinda feel like a fresh cool breeze after scorching summers. Volkswagen abandoning their usual design policy and adopting the coupe seems to work because though designs being subjective, the car assures being an eye-catcher. It would be hasty to comment on availability and other factors but Volkswagen SUV policy in India seems to pave a clear path for Nivus’ launch in the subcontinent. It would be interesting to see how Volkswagen would balance cost and quality in, if any, Indian variant is introduced.
