7-Seater Jeep Commander (Meridian) Interior Teased; Global Debut Soon

American carmaker Jeep is prepping up to introduce a new three-row SUV based on the Compass that is likely to be called 'Jeep Commander' in the international market. While the brand hasn't shared its name for the Indian market, it is likely to be known as Meridian in our country. And as we are heading to its global debut, the brand has started teasing the SUV. The latest teaser video of the upcoming Jeep 7-seater gives us a glimpse of the interior.

The above video reveals the interior bits and features of the upcoming Jeep Commander/Meridian. While it gets an identical dashboard design like the Jeep Compass, it looks more premium than its 5-seater counterpart thanks to the dual-tone cabin theme, brown-colored plush upholstery (a mix of leather and sued), and copper inserts around the cabin. Also highlighted is a “Jeep 1941” inscription on the front center armrest, which refers to the birth year of the original military Willys Jeep.

The teaser also shows off the SUV’s 7-seating arrangement that comprises a 60:40 split-folding bench seat in the middle row. While Jeep is yet to make any official comment on this, a 6-seater configuration will likely be offered with the Jeep Commander.

As for features, the SUV can be seen equipped with notable features like a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, electronic parking brakes with auto-hold function, keyless entry with push start/stop button, dedicated rear AC vents, adjustable headrests for all seats, multiple driving mode selector, hill descent assist, 4WD low, and 4WD LOCK functions. One can also notice adaptive steering control buttons on the steering wheel.

Besides, it could also get premium features like power-adjustable front seats with ventilation functions, a powered tailgate, wireless Apple Carplay & Android Auto, multiple airbags, and various other advanced driver assistance systems like blind-spot monitoring and autonomous emergency braking, etc.

The Jeep Commander will share its underpinnings with the Compass and Renegade with a few modifications to accommodate third-row. It is expected to be available with two engine options: 1.3-litre turbo petrol and a retuned 2.0-litre turbo-diesel. The diesel mill is likely to be offered with the option of a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed automatic, while the petrol option might be limited to a 6 or 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Jeep Commander/Meridian is anticipated to be launched by the next year in the Indian market. Since this will be a locally manufactured product, it is expected to be priced between Rs 35 lakh and Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will rival the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Isuzu mu-X, MG Gloster, Mahindra Alturas G4, and Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace.
