2021 Volkswagen Polo Facelift Revealed, Will It Launch In India?

German auto giant Volkswagen has finally taken the wraps off from the facelifted version of the 6th generation Polo hatchback in Europe. Here're the quick points that will give you insights about the 2021 VW Polo Facelift –

Note: – It is important to note that the VW Polo available in the European market is in its sixth-generation form, whereas the Indian-spec Polo is of the 5th generation.

  • Compared to the pre-facelift model, the new Polo has undergone subtle cosmetic changes along with a few added features. Being a facelift model, the new Polo gets a redesigned front facia, featuring an all-new matrix LED headlamp connected by an LED DRL strip that doubles up as an integrated LED daytime running lamp (DRLs) inside the headlamp cluster. It also gets a sportier-looking redesigned front bumper with a large black applique, comprising a huge air dam in the middle.
  • Changes on the side are limited to the newly designed alloy wheels.

  • Heading toward the rear and you'll notice a slightly updated tailgate to accommodate the redesigned split LED taillamps. It also gets a new VW logo at the center with Polo lettering just below it.
  • The sixth-gen Polo is based on the MQB-A0 platform and it is also longer than the India-spec version.

– Interior & Features

  • The interior of the 2021 VW Polo is largely unchanged save for the larger touchscreen infotainment system (9.2-inches), VW Taigun inspired touch-based climate control panel and VW's ID cars inspired new steering wheel.

  • The notable features of the new Polo include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a wireless phone charger, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, keyless entry with push-button start, multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, front & rear parking sensors, electronic stability control (ESC), adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assistance.

– Engine & Gearbox

  • The facelifted Polo continues to be powered by the 80PS 1.0-liter petrol MPI and 1.0-litre TSI engine that comes with multiple power tuning options ranging between 80PS to 110PS. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT, depending on the engine & variant.

– Will VW launch it in India?

  • As mentioned above, the 2021 VW Polo is based on the MQB-A0 platform. This is the same platform, which the brand has localized for the Indian market. Upcoming Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun will also utilise the same platform. However, currently, the German carmaker is focusing on SUVs. So, we don't expect the 6th-gen Polo will make its way to the Indian market. However, we could get the new Polo with a generation jump, which means the 7th-generation Polo could directly come to our shore, skipping a generation model. It is expected to be launched by 2023.
