2021 Tata Safari Launched At Rs 14.69 Lakh

Tata Motors has finally launched the third-generation Safari at a starting price of Rs 14.69 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It is essentially a three-row version of the Harrier mid-sized SUV with several distinguishing elements and more features. 

The 2021 Tata Safari will be available in two seating configurations (6-& 7-seater) and six variants: – XE, XM, XT, XT+, XZ, and XZ+. Here are the detailed prices: –

• While the 7-seater layout is available with all the variants, the 6-seating arrangement comes only with the top-spec XZ+ variant.
• It carries a premium up to Rs 1.35 lakh over the corresponding variants of the Harrier. 
• It also gets an Adventure Edition which receives some cosmetic differences inside and out. 

2021 Tata Safari – Design 

The all-new Tata Safari is based on the same OMEGA ARC platform that also underpins the Harrier SUV. However, it is 63mm longer and 80mm taller than its 5-seater counterpart, to accommodate the extra row of seats. 

In terms of design, it looks similar to the Harrier save for some notable tweaks. The front end of the two SUVs are much alike except for the tri-arrow chrome finished grille and silver color skid plate. The main difference can be viewed from the side as it gets larger 18-inch alloy wheels, a rear quarter glass panel, and a stepped roof. It also gets roof rails with a SAFARI inscription. On the rear, it features an upright tailgate and revised taillamps. 

Tata has offered four body shades with the Safari – Royale Blue, Daytona Grey, Tropical Mist, and Orcus White.

New Tata Safari – Interior & Features

The cabin of the new Safari is identical to the Harrier except for a new black-white color interior scheme and seating layouts. It comes in both 6- and 7-seater configurations, with the former getting a bench-type seat in the second row and the latter getting two captain’s seats. 

Talking about the features, Tata has offered some additional set of equipment over the Harrier such as i-RA connected car technology, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), electronic parking brake with auto hold, rear disc brakes, and ambient lighting. The other features onboard include an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 9-speaker JBL sound system, panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable driver's seat, a 7-inch semi-digital instrument panel, multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, xenon HID headlights, dual-function LED DRLs, terrain response management, etc. 

Safety, on the other hand, is covered by up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, corner stability control, rear parking sensors with camera.

Tata Safari Adventure Edition

The Safari Adventure Edition flaunts a tropical green shade with blacked-out alloy wheels and piano black finishing replacing the chrome highlights inside and out. Further, it also gets a dual-tone black-and-light-brown interior, instead of the black and white theme of the standard model.

Engine & Gearbox 

Under the bonnet, the 2021 Safari houses the same 2.0-liter Kyrotec turbocharged diesel engine as the Harrier that pushes out 170PS of maximum grunt and 350Nm of peak torque. The Safari can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. As of now, the Safari is only offered with a front-wheel drivetrain. However, an all-wheel-drive option could be offered later depending on the demand.

Rivals

In the 7-seater SUV segment, the all-new Tata Safari will take on the likes of MG Hector Plus and Mahindra XUV500. Soon, Hyundai will also join the tribe with its upcoming 7-seater Creta.
