2021 Skoda Octavia RS Revealed With New Petrol & Diesel Engines

Skoda has finally revealed the petrol and diesel versions of the 4th generation Octavia RS Sedan.  The RS version is basically the performance-based variant. In late 2019, Czech based carmaker debuted the latest iteration of Octavia sedan. Then earlier this year, the company had unveiled the first-ever plug-in hybrid RS variant.

2021 Skoda Octavia RS: What are the things worth talking about?

New Skoda Octavia RS

It gets a powerful Diesel engine

The Skoda Octavia RS comes with three powertrain options for the very first time. It includes a 2.0 L Diesel unit that produces 200 HP (up by 16 HP from previous generation Octavia), a 2.0L TSI Turbo petrol that produces a whopping 245PS (same as before).

The Plug-in RS hybrid variant of the car gets a 1.4L TSI Turbo petrol engine unit that churns out a healthy 245PS when working in conjunction with a 116 HP electric motor.

While the petrol is offered with the option of both 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox and a 6-speed manual, the diesel is only available with the option of 7-speed DSG unit. All the variants will be getting a standard front-wheel-drive (2WD) system, the diesel will also get the option of all-wheel drivetrain (AWD).

Rejigged Body Dynamics

The performance-centric sporty sedan gets a progressive steering system as standard. It also gets an RS Sports suspension eventually resulting in a 15mm lower ride height in non-hybrid models. Petrol and hybrid variant also get an electronically limited slip differential to provide better traction.

The company will also be providing an optional ‘dynamic chassis control’ feature that will allow the drivers to adjust steering, suspension and DSG characteristics through the drive mode selector.

Design

This particular generation carries well the legacy of the Skoda Octavia cars with a dynamic personality. Right from the vRS badging at the front grille and tailgate to the blacked-out treatment of front grilles, air dams, wing mirrors and diffusers, this car comes across as sporty and aggressive.

The design language is also helped by the fact that it gets massive 18-inch wheels, which will not only provide a firm grip on the road but also look good. The company has also allowed the provision of upsizing them to 19 inches.

The whole black theme of the cabin means that sporty theme is elegantly extended even on the interiors. Attention to fine details including carbon-effect accents on the dashboard and aluminium pedals add to the overall sporty charm.

Even the seat fabric on option in top-notch. The front sport seats with fabric upholstery are available as standard. However, there will be an option to choose for a more ergonomic setup upholstered with a mix of Alcantara and Leather.

When is it coming to India?

Though the company has not made any official announcements in this regard, Skoda fanboys in India can take some delight from the fact that the third-generation RS 245 was launched at the 2020 Auto Expo at Rs 35.99 Lakhs.

Though the fourth generation RS will not be coming soon. Skoda India is making leaps towards bringing the standard Octavia is early 2021.
