Skoda VISION IN Concept To Launch As Kushaq; Will Rival Hyundai Creta And Kia Seltos

German automaker Skoda has finalized the name 'Kushaq' for its upcoming VISION IN-based concept SUV. The word 'KUSHAQ' derives from the Sanskrit word ‘Kushak’ which means ‘King’ or ‘Emperor.’ For the people not in know, it's concept version i.e., the VISION IN SUV was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. It will be Skoda's first product under VW Group's 'India 2.0' business plan.

The Skoda Kushaq will be based on the Skoda-Volkswagen’s MQB AO-IN modular platform, which has been especially localized for the Indian market. It's production version is expected to carry forward the maximum design elements from its concept model such as butterfly grille, high-set fog lamps, skid plates, flared wheel arches, roof rails, LED taillamps, and sculpted tailgate, etc. In terms of dimensions, the Skoda Kushak will have a length of about 4.25 meters, while the wheelbase will be 2,671 mm (segment-largest).

In terms of features, Skoda Kushaq will come loaded with lots of premium features such as a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system, connected car technology, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, panoramic sunroof, auto climate control, powered driver seat, electronic parking brake, multiple airbags, etc.

The Kushaq is supposed to get two petrol engine options: a 1.0-liter TSI (115PS/200Nm) and a 1.5-liter TSI (150PS/250Nm) units. Transmission duties are likely to be handled by a 6-speed manual and a torque converter automatic gearbox for the 1.0-liter engine, whereas the bigger engine will get a 7-speed DSG automatic only.

Except Skoda to reveal its production version soon, while the launch is anticipated in mid-2021. It is likely to be priced between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom). In the compact SUV segment, the Skoda Kushaq will lock horns with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti S-Cross, Nissan KicksRenault Duster, and the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun
