BS6 Honda Civic Diesel Launched, Price Starts From Rs. 20.75 Lakh

Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL) has reintroduced the diesel variants of its iconic Civic sedan. They are now BS6 compliant. Like earlier, it will be available in two variants: VX & ZX, which are priced at Rs. 20.75 lakh & Rs. 22.35 lakh respectively. The price of the VX diesel variant now attracts Rs. 20,000 more. However, the rate of ZX diesel has remained the same.

2020 Honda Civic Diesel: Engine

The Honda Civic diesel continues to be powered by a 1.6L i-DTEC engine which produces 120PS of max power and 300Nm of peak torque. Upgrading on new emission standards hasn't affected its output. This fuel-efficient motor is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission like before. It still lacks an automatic transmission option.

Mileage

Honda claims that BS6 Civic diesel can run 23.9 km in a litre of fuel. In comparison to its BS4 version, the mileage has dropped by 2.9kmpl.

Is there any change in the features list?

No, the company hasn't changed its feature list. It will continue to lure customers by offering premium features like 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with android auto & apple carplay connectivity, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear ac vents, electric sunroof, lane watch assist, 8-way power-adjustable driver seat, electric parking brake etc. In terms of safety, it features 6-airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist (BA), hill start assist (HSA), vehicle stability assists (VSA) and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

Author's Take

It's great to see the Honda Civic diesel back, as till now, only Hyundai Elantra was available with the CI unit in the segment. However, Elantra still has the advantage of an automatic gearbox option. Also, the pricing of Hyundai's executive sedan (Rs 18.70 lakh to Rs 20.65 lakh) is on the lower side then the civic diesel which might cause trouble for Japanese makers. But, we cannot deny the fact that civic diesel in more powerful and torquiest here.
