Debuted in November 2019 overseas, the Mercedes-Benz Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC has finally arrived in India at Rs 2.43 crore (ex-showroom). It is the first SUV from Maybach in our country and commands a hefty premium of Rs 1.39 crore over the standard GLS, which retails at Rs 1.04 crore (ex-showroom). In India, this flagship luxury SUV takes on the likes of the Bentley Bentayga and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
For those who aren't aware, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS is the luxurious version of the GLS SUV. It gets plenty of chrome garnishing on the exterior especially around the vertical louver grille and both front & rear bumpers, which make it look ultra-premium. It also features the iconic Maybach logo on the D-pillar.
Dimensionally, it is 31mm wider and 15mm taller than the standard model and gets larger 22-inch chrome-finished alloy wheels as standard along with optional 23-inches alloys. Mercedes has offered the Maybach GLS 600 in a total of 15 body shades, including five dual-tone options.
Like the exterior, the Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC cabin is an escape to premium, luxury-filled space. While the dashboard design of the Maybach looks largely similar to the regular GLS, it's cabin is decked up with Nappa leather touches along with wooden finishing, diamond quilting, and contrast piping for a more superior appeal. It has 93mm of extra space over the standard GLS in the second row. The brand claims that the cabin noise insulation has also been improved over the regular model.
The Maybach GLS is being offered in two seating configurations – a 5-and a 4-seater. While the former gets a bench seat with the two electrically controlled outer seats, the latter features two full-fledged lounge-style individual seats with ventilation and massage functions. It also features two rear 11.6-inches MBUX entertainment screens behind the front seats, wireless charging pads, and an MBUX rear tablet integrated into the center console to control various functions of this epitome of luxury. Also on offer are the temperature-controlled cup-holders & stowage compartment, folding rear tables, silver-plated champagne flutes with tail-made holders, and a refrigerated compartment.
The other creature comforts of the Maybach GLS include two 12.3-inch connected screens (wherein one is for the digital instrument cluster and the other is for Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system), four-zone climate control, 64-colour ambient lighting, electric sun blinds, panoramic sunroof, automatically extending side steps, massaging seats front and rear, the chauffeur package to adjust the co-driver seat from the rear, and a 13-speaker Burmester sound system, etc. The safety kit on offer includes eight airbags, ABS, ESP, lane keep assist, blind-spot assist, active brake & steering assist, 360-degree camera, tire pressure monitoring, and more.
Powering the latest Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC is a bi-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine combined with a 48Vmild hybrid system making a maximum power of 558PS and a peak torque of 730Nm. The power is sent to all four wheels via a 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission that comes with the company’s E-Active Body Control active air suspension. It can sprint from 0 to 100kmph in just 4.9 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph.
