Latest Update: Maruti Grand Vitara has finally been launched in India. Check the full-price list here.
Maruti Suzuki has finally revealed its upcoming Creta-rivaling Grand Vitara mid-size SUV. It is essentially a rebadged version of the Toyota Hyryder which was unveiled earlier this month. Prices of the SUV are expected to be revealed in August 2022.
Despite being a cross-badged version of the Hyryder, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara has its own design identity. Based on the brand’s ‘Crafted Futurism’ design language, it look largely inspired by the global-spec new-generation S-Cross, featuring a large piano black NEXWave grille upfront with a chrome slat adjoining Nexa’s latest 3-element LED daytime running lamps (DRLs). Similar kinds of elements can also be seen in its connecting LED tail lamp cluster which adds to its overall appeal.
Dimension-wise, the SUV is 4345mm long, 1645mm long, 1795mm wide, and has a wheelbase of 2600mm.
The cabin difference has been kept to a minimum from its Toyota counterpart. That said, it gets the same dashboard layout as the Hyryder, save for the distinct rich black faux leather with champagne gold accents.
As for features, the new Vitara will be loaded with bits such as a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple Carplay and Andriod Auto, an Arkamys-tuned sound system, connected car tech with remote control functionality, a digital driver display, a head-up display (HUD), dual-zone climate control with ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, wireless smartphone charger, paddle shifters, a 360-degree camera, multidrive modes, parking sensors, tire pressure monitoring system, up to 6 airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, and much more.
Beneath the hood, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara also gets the same 1.5-litre mild-hybrid and 1.5-litre strong-hybrid engine options as the Toyota Hyryder. The former will also get an optional all-wheel drivetrain (AWD). Here’s a look at its detailed specifications: –
Engine | 1.5-litre k-series DualJet petrol engine with a mild-hybrid system | 1.5-litre TNGA petrol with self-charging strong-hybrid system |
No of Cylinders | 4 | 3 |
Max Power | 102PS | 115PS (combined) |
Peak Torque | 135Nm | 141Nm (combined) |
Transmission Options | 5-speed manual, 6-speed torque converter automatic | e-CVT |
Drivetrain | FWD/AWD | FWD |
Claimed Mileage | 21.11 kmpl (MT), 20.58 kmpl (AT), 19.38 kmpl (AWD-MT) | 27.97 kmpl |
The Grand Vitara will be offered in 6 monotone and 3 dual-tone color options. It will also get two NEXA accessories theme packs: ENIGMAX and ENIGMAX.
We reckon Maruti Suzuki to price the new Grand Vitara from around Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom). It is likely to replace the S-Cross from the brand’s India lineup.
