Back in August 2021, Hero MotorCorp has teased its first electric scooter during its 10th-anniversary celebrations. And now the two-wheeler maker has announced that its EV project is in the advanced stage and its first electric two-wheeler will be introduced by March 2022. Interestingly, Hero MotoCorp's electric vehicles will be launched under a new sub-brand, and for that, the company has applied for a few nomenclatures like Vida Electric, Vida EV, Vida Mobility, Vida MotoCorp, Vida Scooters, and Vida Motorcycles.
The trademark filings reveal that the company will launch both electric scooters and motorcycles in the country. All of them will be manufactured at the brand’s plant in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh that’s aptly called the ‘Garden Factory’.
Now you must be wondering about Hero Electric. Let me clear that it's a separate company from Hero MotoCorp, which is also run by the members of the Munjal family.
Earlier in April, Hero has also announced a strategic partnership with the Taiwan-based Gogoro Electric, mainly for battery swapping technology. So, it is clear that all of majorly all Hero EVs will get swappable battery packs, tackling the range anxiety. Besides, the Hero MotoCorp also owns the majority of stacks in Ather Energy. So, expect its first electric scooter to have some influence from the Ather 450 range of vehicles.
In a related development, Honda 2-wheelers could also introduce its first electric scooter by the next year.
